Oh, 'Em, Gee!

I don't know what is going on but my face/ears are killing me.  Ever since being teased about my nut intake, I increased the amount I consume... now my face, ears, brows, chin, etc are red and ITCHY!  If I were truly allergic to nuts I am sure my throat would swell, but man it started a few days ago and now it almost burns.  I look like Rudolph but my entire face is red!  I guess it could be some wind burn too but it started before all the wind yesterday.  OR maybe it is because I cheated a few times? (all written in my blog pics)  My worst cheat was last night.  Yesterday my daughter turned 7.  So I bought cookies for her softball team for after the game.  (I am her coach, I love it!)  Anyway, they were the kind that have that really thick cupcake frosting with sprinkles.  So, we are on the way to her game and I couldn't resist.  I ate one, all while trying to not let my three kids see in the car on the way to the field.  It was sooo good, I HAD to eat another one.  This time I ate it really slow so I could enjoy it.  I ate the first one so fast that it shouldn't even count as a cheat. :o}  So I thoroughly enjoyed the second one.  yada yada yada, after the game, my daughter is passing cookies out ( I bought extra for all the siblings too) well she passes them all out and forgets to keep one for herself. Then, my 4 year old son drops his before eating it.  Both are crying, all parents and kids are looking at me.  I felt bad but what could I do, we were out of cookies.  As I am getting in my car it hits me.... I ate my kids cookies... what a BAD mother!  Then my oldest says, Mom, you ate two cookies on the way here, way to go!  That made me feel so much better!  Thanks Dom!

Blogging...

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Ok, I must admit I miss blogging.  Lately, I have only been taking a picture of my food log and posting it. However, I miss it.  Weird huh?  I don't even really know if anyone reads it or not, or cares what I have to say but ultimately I write it for me. (I know E likes my pics!)  It's kind of like therapy to help me with this challenge.
I have decided to try and eat more healthy fat.  I get teased a lot about eating 1 mac. nut for part of my pre-CF snack, so I am now going for 5 mac. nuts.
One of the main reasons I am trying this challenge is to see an increase in my performance.  I am not sure I notice anything yet.  Maybe with increasing my fat I will notice a change? Or maybe I am expecting miracles overnight?
Totally excited about the SWFL CF Endurance Team!  I have been very lazy with my running since my injury. I trained so hard for my first marathon, and then to have it ripped away for me a few weeks before the race was very depressing.  I have recently started back training... I have missed it! Unfortunately, it is like starting all over again. But, at least I can run!

Just egg

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Coach said no to potatoes, but we decided to stay anyway.  We were really thinking about ducking out the back door, but we knew we had to stay and do "Kelly".  She was brutal but, I felt great after doing it.  I am glad we stayed because I knew I would have regretted it had we left.  Best part was going to Mel's Diner afterward for an omelet. E-Z E asked how they made them- after we started eating... we were worried they used milk to make the omelet.  Low and behold they don't use milk or water... just egg.

WOD = Potatoes?

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Okay- I am scared of tomorrow's workout!  Yikes- that's 150 wall ball shots. But will do WOD for potatoes!   According to the Paleo Diet for Athletes book after a strenuous endurance workout, potatoes, sweet potatoes or yams may be eaten, but only in the post workout window.  So... our plan is to go in and ask Coach if we are allowed to have potatoes after "Kelly".  If he says yes we are staying for the workout and then heading directly to get an omelet and potatoes, if not, we are going to the trail and running!  Is that bad?

More painful than Paleo!

I think I have found something that is more painful then the Paleo Diet..... getting your eyebrows done!  Holy Cow!  Maybe it was because I was way over due but man talk about pain.  I think Patty secretly was plucking a few extra eyebrow hairs and thinking to herself... "Ah ha, take that you runner!"

Pic. says it all.

So I don't have to keep a log and then type everything again... I'll just do this.

8 AM

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Can't wait until tomorrow after CF- My 8am bitches- (just kidding girls- you know I love you!)  My girls are all making different kinds of cookies to share!  I am going to surprise them with a paleo apple pie!  It looks really yummy.  I got the recipe out of the Living Primal link on the CFFM site, the one J. Brod shared with everyone.  (except the amount of coconut oil is way off and since I hate coconut, I used almond oil)  So I am excited to try all the different deserts.

breakfast: 3 oz beef tenderloin (gross for breakfast-gag) 2 small banana almond flour pancakes, olive oil, & coffee  3-2-1
lunch: 7 oz filet, lettuce, mushrooms with water  7-1-1

Ok, Ok... I can't do it!

Saturday, February 13, 2010

I can't eat a cheat meal. (Oh, don't get me wrong- I will break down- My guess is it will be during PMS- sorry boys for TMI) Anyway, I have been contemplating it for days now. I know exactly what I will eat, but I can't actually do it. I am scared! I have talked to several people about it, I know it is okay to do it BUT I am afraid that when I do I won't be able to get back on track. Has anyone had a cheat meal and able to get back focused and stay on track? Or does it make this more difficult the next time you want something that isn't Paleo? I need Monday, I need my PSG!

lunch: 3oz chicken, pear, 3 mac nuts, 9 almonds (more nuts OCD!) 3-2-6

Cheese? Cheese isn't Paleo!

Friday, February 12, 2010

Went to First Watch, paid particular attention to what I was ordering.  Even asked if my omelet could be made with olive oil.  So hungry after CF.  Meal comes and it is covered in CHEESE!  (I didn't ask for cheese.  Cheese isn't Paleo, don't they know this?)  Now, mind you it looked good, but I immediately started to scrape it off the top.  I think I lost half my omelet in the process.  I wanted to make sure there was not a drip of cheese on there.  Patty asked why I just didn't send it back... of course everyone knows to never send anything back to the kitchen- they will spit in it!  Well, probably not there, but I am just in the habit of not doing it.  So, I ate it- I think I got most of the cheese off.  So, I am not going to count that as a cheat!  But I should change my journal from a 3 egg omelet to a two egger.

Just one taco...please!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Wow-  I STRUGGLED this afternoon.   It was rough, I just wanted something- like a taco, or chips and queso,  potato chips smothered in hot sauce, french fries,  anything. I needed some kind of substance in my belly beside "2 cups of green stuff".  I had already made up my mind that Valentines Dinner would be my first cheat meal.  So I got all excited... I told my husband that I am cheating this weekend, let's go out some where for nice for dinner.  He suggested Roy's. Most people would jump at going there for dinner. Then he suggested going to Naples, (there's a great seafood restaurant there)  He was surprised when I was like... NO!!!!  I can eat steak and seafood any night.  I want tacos, queso, beer, chips-n-salsa.  He wasn't impressed. "For Valentines? That's not nice."  What can I say, I'm a cheap date!  Back to struggling- I was so hungry this afternoon.... I needed something solid.  So I quickly made the almond flour pancakes and choked down 5 sm. pancakes. (these have coconut in them, I HATE COCONUT)  But, this gave me control to get back on track.  How many days are left? and why am I doing this??????

snack before CF: 1HB egg, 2 mac nuts 1-0-2
breakfast:  banana, whey protein with water, 9 almonds  3-3-3

snack:  tea, 2 sq. dk. choc.

No more water...

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

So- at Target today.  Bumped into a friend, she was carrying around the extra large size Starbucks coffee.  I just looked at it, sighed out loud and said, "Ummm, coffee!"  (figuring it was one of their famous coffees filled with flavor and whip cream)  She was like- "It's tea."  Of course the natural Paleo questions followed - Is it good?  Any caffeine?  How about sugar? By this time she is looking at me like I am crazy, not sure if it was how fast I was asking the questions or because of the way I was staring at her cup.  Being the nice person she is, she took me over to Starbucks and showed me what it was.... Vanilla Rooibos.  I wanted to taste it so bad but it was so hot... I needed something other then WATER.  It gets even better, she showed me they even sell it at Target!  So now I am sitting here typing my blog sipping my tea!

snack before CF:  1 HB egg, 1 mac nut & coffee 1-0-1
breakfast: banana, 2 egg omelet with onions, green peppers, olive oil, 6 almonds  2-4-3

Only on the Paleo diet....

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Only on the Paleo diet would you resort to such measures.  Let me just share part of my day.  Met 2FO for lunch- which entailed chicken, lettuce, grilled mushrooms & onions, guac. fresh jalapenos with a bottle of water.  Well I ordered "double the meat" because I was hungry.  After eating I of course was trying to calculate the blks which came to 6-1-4.  Well I immediately started to panic that I didn't eat enough carbs. Which means I would pay for it later... so I was on a mission, I HAD to get some. So I decided to go get 2 cups of tomatoes from fresh market to round of my meal. (not the cherry ones, the little bigger ones) Well as I am in Fresh Market I bump into Chan.  I stop to say hello and check out her cart.  (all Paleo!)  Then she showed me the coolest thing... I had no idea you could throw some almonds in this machine and then it would spit out almond butter.  Pretty cool.  I told her I was going to watch her while she made it. ( Neither one of us had ever used the machine before)  As we waited for it to come out, we chatted on how we were both holding up, yada yada.  I kept waiting, but it was taking forever for it to fill up so I told her it was good to bump in to her and good luck! Now this is where I felt a little weird.... I had to get my tomatoes eaten but I wasn't going home.  I had errands before picking up kids at school.  So, I just used the water in my bottle to wash my tomatoes.  I was really hoping no one would see me.  I would open my car door, wash two really quick, close my door, then eat 'em and then do two more.  I felt like I was doing something bad like "getting a quick fix" or something.
Anyway, a little later 2FO called to see if I was still at FM because she went to grab something.  I told her about seeing Chan and the cool machine that makes almond butter.  So she decided to check it out.  When I saw her later at parent pickup she said there was a sign on it - Out of Service.   So if you go to Fresh Market for fresh almond butter blame it on Chan!  :o)

snack before CF: 1 HB egg, 1 mac. nut & coffee  1-0-1
breakfast: paleo kit & water 3-2-6
lunch: 6oz chicken, lettuce, grilled onions & mushrooms, guac. 2 cups tomatoes & water 6-3-4
dinner: 2oz chicken, mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, 1 sq. dk choc & coffee  2-1-3
snack: 1/2 apple, 3 almonds  0-1-1

Can it be true?

Monday, February 8, 2010

HK and others have told me that I would feel awesome after eating Paleo.  Today was a day I think I felt that.  It was very weird... I felt awesome ~ mood wise.  Hard to explain- felt very happy and awake, like peppy, yet still had a foggy light headache, but I was just happy and the slight headache didn't even phase me.  I am definitely starting to feel different...  Is the Paleo diet nature's happy pill?  I was feeling so different that I was questioning if maybe First Watch put something in my omelet this morning.  I am probably just going crazy like everyone keeps telling me I am.  Either way- a great day!     Thanks to my PSG!

Brod!  Anyway, I am trying to count my meals based on zone, but somethings are just not worth the effort for me. All the effort goes towards the meal preparation and swallowing.  This is a picture of Blueberry Almond Meal Pancakes.  Looks yummy right....

I survived a day with out coffee!

Thursday, February 4, 2010

First day without coffee, but only because I wasn't allowed!  Missed morning snack, breakfast and CF because of having to get an endoscopy.  When I got home I was starving so I ate a lot.  Procedure wasn't bad, don't really remember it, except the nurse stuck my hand with the needle for IV and missed my vein.  She dug around looking for it with the needle, then finally decided that she should try my arm.  That hurts!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Didn't post yesterday's food log last night because I had such a headache, which started around 2PM and was killing me by 7:30.  I went to lay down and never got up.  (as Socks says it's like  withdrawal of crack)  SUGAR withdrawal. At one point I had to text 2FO for intervention.  All I wanted was a coke- and everything would be OK.

I keep hearing I will start feeling great in about two weeks....  can't wait for that!  And to top it off, I can't believe I missed Lost last night, but thank God for TiVo!  I have only been waiting for it to start for months.

One Down.... Fifty Eight to Go! Piece of cake, yeah right!

Monday, February 1, 2010

Finally, the first day of the challenge has arrived.  I am trying to do the Zone/Paleo thing.  I am really good at counting the blocks until it comes to a meal like stuffed green peppers... well I know that it is 3 blocks of protein but what about the pepper and other ingredients used to make it?  I don't think I count them, I think I just count it as protein???? right...    And what about the almond butter... for my snack I had 2 tablespoons because according to the label it is 7grams protein but also 16 grams of fat.... can I count it for both protein and fat or just protein. CLUELESS

PSG went awesome.  Can't wait till we get together again.
